3D Printing
„From idea to serial product“
3D Printing – Technology of the future with broad application spectrum and design freedom
3D printing is an umbrella term for all additive manufacturing processes where three-dimensional components are produced layer by layer from shapeless raw material. Originally, the technology served primarily to realize prototypes as quickly as possible directly from computer-generated 3D models.
Today, 3D printing has established itself in numerous industries due to its seemingly unlimited range of applications. In addition to prototypes, which remain a relevant application area for 3D printing, industrial sectors produce master models and tool inserts made from plastic, metal or ceramic. Currently, new materials are constantly being developed, continuously expanding the applications for 3D printing.
Additive manufacturing has been in a phase of rapid growth for years. Through the development of versatile new materials and the continuous optimization of manufacturing processes, 3D printing continuously opens up new application areas across a wide range of industries. Particularly in the industrial environment, prototype development remains a key core application, but the manufacturing of series-ready products — for example for the automotive industry or tool and machinery manufacturing — is increasingly gaining importance.

Innovation through design freedom
The key advantages of 3D printing become apparent when compared to conventional manufacturing processes: while subtractive or forming techniques such as milling, forging, welding, drilling or soldering reach their limits when manufacturing complex geometries, additive processes can easily implement undercuts, cavities or internal structures. The design freedom gained this way drives innovation across industries.
